Burtonsville, MD — March 8th — Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department honored Women's History Month by showcasing the contributions women have made to the department's everyday operations and history. Women have worked for BVFD in a variety of areas, including as community outreach, emergency medical services, firefighting, and leadership positions. Their efforts continue to serve the department's goals of safeguarding locals and helping those in need.

Women make up a significant portion of the fire and emergency services workforce nationwide. These days, a lot of departments actively seek out and prepare women for leadership and operational positions. The department still honors women who have served in the past, those who are currently on the roster, and prospective members who will carry on the tradition of service, according to BVFD officials.
