Mashpee, MA - In the aftermath of the February Blizzard of 2026, the Town of Mashpee is recognizing the outstanding efforts of its fire department and the resilience shown by the community. Over the course of five challenging days, Mashpee Fire Department personnel responded to more than 240 calls for service, demonstrating exceptional dedication under extreme conditions.
Throughout the storm, the department provided mutual aid assistance on several occasions, while notably managing all local emergencies without requiring outside support. This achievement highlights the dedication and coordination of Mashpee Fire staff, alongside the vital contributions of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Dispatch Center, Mashpee Police Department, and Mashpee Department of Public Works.
Equally remarkable was the spirit of community that emerged during the crisis. The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe generously opened its tribal headquarters as a warming shelter, offering care and refuge to dozens of residents. In addition, many calls received were from individuals concerned not for themselves, but for the well-being of their neighbors—an inspiring reflection of the town’s compassion and unity.
Town officials expressed deep gratitude for this collective effort, noting that the kindness and solidarity displayed throughout the storm were truly humbling. Special appreciation was also extended to Eversource MA and the many contractors who worked tirelessly to restore services during the severe weather event.
