February 27, 2026 — The Auburn Fire Department announced the retirement of Fire Prevention Officer David O’Connell, recognizing nearly two decades of dedicated service to the department and the Auburn community. O’Connell served in multiple critical roles throughout his career, including Fire Prevention Officer, Fire Investigator, building inspector, and code enforcement expert. Colleagues noted that his knowledge and commitment played an important role in protecting the community through fire prevention, inspections, and investigations. In addition to his service with the fire department, O’Connell is also a Marine Corps veteran, a background that reflected his strong sense of duty and professionalism throughout his career. Department members expressed their appreciation for his years of leadership, dedication, and support to fellow firefighters and staff, describing him as an important member of the Auburn Fire Department family. As he begins the next chapter of his life, the department extended its best wishes and gratitude for his many contributions.
