Garfield fire contained by sprinklers

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

At approximately 2:45 A.M. on the morning of March 11th, Garfield fire companies were dispatched to an activated water flow alarm on Chestnut St. Upon arrival, Engine 1 and Engine 5 began to investigate and were quickly met by a heavy interior smoke condition and a sprinkler activation. Assistant Chief Colon requested Elmwood Park Truck 4 to the scene due to Garfield's Truck being out of service. Companies found a fire in the ceiling/roof in the rear corner of the structure. Companies were able to quickly extinguish the remaining fire that wasn’t extinguished by the sprinkler system. The incident was held to the first-alarm companies. Companies remained on scene for approximately two hours. Garfield Fire Prevention Bureau is conducting further investigation into the incident.
