Joint Drill Focuses on Ice Rescue Skills in Brant Lake

Brant Lake, NY — March 3rd — To improve winter response capabilities, Horicon Fire Department Inc. trained the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Department in ice rescue. Firefighters received training on the frozen water conditions that are typical across the Adirondack region in the winter. Crews rehearsed how to utilize ice rescue suits, ropes, and flotation equipment in the event that someone falls through the ice. The exercise also went over victim removal, safe approach techniques, and agency coordination.
In Warren County, where lakes and ponds are popular for snowmobiling and ice fishing, ice rescue training is a regular component of winter readiness for agencies. Joint drills, according to officials, assist firemen maintain their skills and enhance teamwork, ensuring that units are ready to react swiftly to ice-related incidents in the Brant Lake area.
