March 5, 2026 — Arianna Mortensen joined the Westmere Fire Department in April 2024 as an exterior firefighter, bringing with her a powerful personal connection to the department and its mission.

In 2020, firefighters from Westmere responded to a structure fire at Mortensen’s childhood home. Thanks to their efforts, the home was saved, allowing her and her family to return a year later. That experience inspired her to join the department and give back to the community that helped her family during a difficult time.

Since becoming a member, Mortensen has embraced the opportunity to train, serve, and build strong connections within the department. She says some of her favorite moments have been the times when members come together for events and training, strengthening the sense of teamwork and camaraderie.

Mortensen says she is grateful for the friendships and sense of family she has found within the Westmere Fire Department and looks forward to continuing her journey in the fire service while helping others in their time of need.
