CELEBRATING THE ARRIVAL OF A NEW RIG

A piece of fire apparatus is a firefighter's mobile office. Treat it good with the proper maintenance and care, and it will work for you and possibly save a life.
Firefighters spend a lot of time and research when they are putting together specifications for a new engine, truck, rescue, or special unit. Sometimes it takes the “Truck Committee” (even if it's an engine) years to put together the right specification that meets the needs of their community.
So, when the new rig arrives, it's a special day for those involved in its assembly. In New Jersey, some departments celebrate with a wet down, a firehouse ceremony and refreshments and even a parade.
On March 18th, Ridgefield Engine Co. 2 welcomed home its new E-One 2000-gpm pumper. Already filled with all of its equipment, and hose, the rig was escorted along Bergen Boulevard to its firehouse, as a crowd was waiting. The crowd included local and area firefighters, municipal officials, family and friends. Many photos and tours around the apparatus, and an inspection of all of the compartments was accomplished.
A few speeches were made by firefighters and officials and a big Thank You to all involved in acquiring the new Engine 2. And, of course, the new rig and its firefighters were blessed.
Can't have a firefighter ceremony without food and refreshments. After the speeches, pizza was the order of the evening.
Engine Co. 2 has a formal wet down ceremony set for June 14th.
