On June 26, at around 7:20 p.m., the Center Moriches Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle collision near the intersection of Montauk Highway and Neville Street.

When firefighters arrived, they saw one car with severe damage to the driver's side up against a power pole. The driver's door was removed and the occupant was successfully extricated by crews using hydraulic rescue tools, also referred to as the Jaws of Life.

The occupants of the second vehicle were unharmed, but the driver was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. While emergency personnel worked at the incident, Montauk Highway was closed for around half an hour.
