Lakeland, FL – Approximately 7:30 AM on Dec. 30, Lakeland Fire Department (LFD) responded to a call for a building fire at Lakewood Terrace Apartments located at 1315 W 14th Street.
Fire crews arrived on the scene to find smoke inside a second-floor apartment but no active fire. The fire was extinguished prior to LFD's arrival by Lakeland Police Department (LPD) officers. LFD crews checked for fire extension and ventilated the apartment. The apartment sustained moderate fire damage.
Three tenants were evacuated from the property, administered CPR, and transported to local hospital. Three LPD officers, one Lieutenant and two officers, were also transported for monitoring. There is no update on patient status at this time.
Responding to the scene included 16 LFD units, 6 Polk County Fire Rescue (PCFR) units, and multiple LPD units. No firefighter injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and turned over to the Bureau of Fire and Arson Investigation with the State Fire Marshal's Office, but it does appear to be unintentional. American Red Cross was contacted and referred to the Public Housing Authority who manages the property.
