Members of the Cardiff Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 traded turnout gear for hockey jerseys on Dec. 20, 2025, as they took part in a Police vs. Fire charity hockey game benefiting the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program in Mays Landing. The friendly matchup brought together first responders from across the area with a shared goal of supporting local children during the holiday season.

All participants donated new, unwrapped toys to the annual campaign, helping ensure families in need could enjoy a brighter Christmas. While the firefighters came up short on the scoreboard, organizers said the true victory was the strong turnout, community support, and generous toy donations collected through the event.

The game capped off a busy holiday season for Cardiff firefighters, who balanced emergency response duties with community outreach efforts. Department members thanked the police officers, volunteers, and spectators who supported the event and contributed to the Toys for Tots drive, emphasizing that community involvement remains a cornerstone of the volunteer fire service.
