The Philadelphia Fire Department reminded the public on December 18 to avoid obstructing fire hydrants. Access to hydrants is essential during emergencies, according to fire authorities, as even a few seconds of delay can affect fire suppression efforts.
In winter, when snow and poor visibility can already impede response operations, drivers are advised to always maintain sufficient space near hydrants. Firefighters can immediately establish a water supply and start operations without delay when hydrants are kept clear. The department stressed that when lives and property are at risk, the public can actively support emergency response and help firemen work more effectively.
