December 11, 2025 | Freeland Fire Department — Freeland Fire Department officials formally executed a contract Wednesday evening to refurbish the department’s rescue vehicle, marking a significant step in strengthening emergency response capabilities for the communities it serves.

The signing took place at the original Citizens Hose Co. table and was completed by FFD President Larry Stepansky Sr. and Secretary Ashley Sharpe. The ceremony was witnessed by FFD Chief Joseph J. Stepansky and Treasurer Sandra Kuklis.

The refurbishment contract was awarded to Bulldog Fire Apparatus of Nesquehoning, Pennsylvania. Over the past four months, Bulldog Fire Apparatus worked closely with Freeland Fire Department leadership to develop a detailed plan to convert the rescue vehicle into a modern, mission-ready apparatus tailored to departmental needs. The project is designed to ensure long-term reliability, safety, and functionality of the vehicle for years to come.

Chief Joseph J. Stepansky praised the efforts of the Chief and Line Officers, the Finance Committee, and department members whose collaboration and planning helped bring the project to fruition. The refurbishment initiative reflects the department’s continued commitment to investing in equipment that enhances firefighter safety and improves service to the community.
