Box 3-5 was sent to a brush fire on Jacks Mountain Road in Hamiltonban Township at around 2:15 p.m. on December 13. The Fountaindale Volunteer Fire Department's Company 3 units arrived on the scene. Firefighters discovered that hot ashes that had been thrown onto a burn pile were the origin of the fire. The reaction was triggered by the ashes reigniting nearby brush due to dry weather and mild breezes. In order to stop the fire from spreading farther into neighboring wooded areas, crews swiftly confined and put it out.

Fire officials advised locals to dispose of ashes with extreme caution after the event. Even seemingly cool ashes can hold onto heat for days, and under dry, windy circumstances, they may rekindle. Before returning to service, units stayed on the site until the area was secured and conditions were verified to be safe.
