Mystic, Connecticut — November 24 — Every year, the Old Mystic Fire Department (Official) held a refresher course on hazardous chemicals with an emphasis on bulk propane storage and transit situations. The design of propane systems, delivery strategies, and response factors for leaks, fires, and transportation events were all covered in the workshop.
Participants evaluated the bulk propane distribution and storage systems at the Mystic Aquarium and Olde Mistick Village. Additionally, crews looked at a variety of bulk transport vehicles utilized for the transfer of chemicals, propane, gasoline, and cryogenic materials.
There were about 75 first responders from various local fire departments present. In order to enhance preparedness and safe operations during hazardous materials occurrences, the training emphasised the importance of regional cooperation and coordination with private enterprise.
