Norwich, Connecticut — November 24 — Laurel Hill Volunteer Fire Company #6 members participated in battery response and electric vehicle training with EGP and Yantic Fire Engine Company #1. The community's increasing use of electric cars, lithium-ion batteries, and energy storage devices was discussed throughout the discussion. Leading the training, Chief Duval gave a summary of how EVs are built, where batteries are located, and how to spot high-voltage parts. Instruction concentrated on reaction factors, such as scene safety, isolation zones, and water application techniques, for car wrecks, fires, and battery failures.

Departments are expanding training to address new operational problems as electric vehicles become more prevalent.
