November 27, 2025 — Members of the Cutchogue Fire Department continued their commitment to training and readiness this week by participating in live car fire training at the Suffolk County Fire Academy in Yaphank. On Tuesday night, 18 firefighters took part in the academy’s “Car Fire” drill, designed to simulate a variety of vehicle fire scenarios that firefighters may encounter within the district.
Following a brief classroom session, firefighters moved into hands-on training, completing multiple live-fire evolutions under the supervision of Suffolk County Fire Academy instructors. The drills included extinguishing fires involving both conventional vehicles and tractor-trailers, allowing members to sharpen skills in hose handling, fire attack, and situational awareness in challenging conditions.
Cutchogue Fire Department regularly trains at the Fire Academy several times each year to ensure its members remain prepared to protect the community. This session marked the final live-fire training visit to Yaphank for CFD in 2025. Department leadership expressed appreciation to the instructors and academy staff for their continued support and instruction, noting the value these opportunities bring to operational readiness and firefighter safety.
