On December 9, 2025, the Center Moriches Fire Department released important safety and parking information ahead of the annual Holiday Parade of Lights, one of the largest and most anticipated community events in the area.
The parade has grown significantly over the years, now welcoming more than 60 participating groups, multiple fire departments, and an estimated 2,000 spectators annually. Due to this continued growth, the Suffolk County Police Department will implement enhanced safety measures similar to those used at large-scale public events.
Officials announced that there will be no parking on Main Street from Lake Avenue to Ocean Avenue on Saturday, December 13, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Temporary no-parking signs will be posted the night before the parade. Any vehicles remaining on Main Street after 3:00 p.m. on parade day will be towed to a safe location to clear the route and protect spectators and participants.
In addition, barricades will be installed along the parade route to improve pedestrian safety and help manage the increasing crowd size. Community members are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra time for parking, and consider carpooling, walking when possible, or arriving early due to limited off-street parking.
With cold temperatures expected, parade organizers also reminded attendees to dress warmly, wear layers, and ensure children and older adults are properly bundled.
Fire officials emphasized that these changes are designed solely to keep the event safe while preserving the family-friendly atmosphere that has made the Holiday Parade of Lights a cherished Center Moriches tradition. Organizers thanked the community for its cooperation and expressed excitement for another festive and memorable parade night.
