The Ashaway Volunteer Fire Association responded to a report of a 100-gallon propane tank leaking in the afternoon of December 12. Crews investigated and found that the tank had been overfilled, allowing propane to escape via the relief valve, which had frozen and could not be closed. To properly reduce the leak, a controlled flare-off operation was carried out by the Hope Valley-Wyoming Fire District Haz-Mat Team. Additionally, a tanker was requested from the North Stonington Volunteer Fire Company. In around ninety minutes, the operations were finished. There were no recorded casualties or property damage.
