On 20th Nov 2025 ,The Bridgehampton Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of its most dedicated members, Lawrence L. Osborn, who answered his last alarm on November 13, 2025. Osborn passed away peacefully at his home in Wainscott at the age of 91, leaving behind a legacy of nearly six decades of service to his community.

Osborn joined the Bridgehampton Fire Department in 1961 and remained an active and respected presence for 59 years. A proud member of the Mack Company, he became known not only for his commitment but also for his humor, humility, and willingness to take on new challenges at any stage of life. He was a founding member of the department’s Rescue Squad and, never content to slow down, completed EMT training in his mid-70s.

Affectionately nicknamed “Hairdo,” Osborn earned the moniker in his early firefighting days by riding his motorcycle to the firehouse before helmets were required, often arriving with wind-swept blonde hair. Beyond the fire service, he was a lifelong farmer, working land his family settled in the 1600s and operating the well-known Osborn “Pick Your Own” berry fields overlooking Wainscott Pond.

Osborn’s dedication to service continues through his family. His son, a 20-year member of the department, currently serves as Mack Company Captain, and his granddaughter Gabriella is a member of the EMS Company—making the Osborn legacy a multi-generational one within the department.

He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Iris Osborn, who passed away in 2022. He is survived by his children, Anna, Lori, and Elisha, his grandchildren, and extended family. Even after retiring from active status in 2020, Osborn remained a familiar and cherished presence at the department’s annual inspection dinners.

Services will be held at Yardley Pino Funeral Home in East Hampton on Saturday, November 29, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a firematic service at 7 p.m. A graveside service at Wainscott Cemetery and a reception at the Wainscott Chapel will follow on Sunday, November 30, with the time to be announced.

The Bridgehampton Fire Department honors Lawrence L. Osborn for a lifetime defined by service, dedication, and community spirit.
