A dog slipped through the ice and into a pond on the morning of December 5th, prompting Andover Fire Rescue to go to a reported ice rescue at Holt Road. When firefighters arrived, they saw the dog in the water and started rescue efforts right away. Ladder 1 personnel entered the freezing conditions after donning water rescue suits and deploying a Rapid Deployment Craft. The dog was safely returned to shore by the crews after they were able to reach it.
After being moved to Andover Animal Control, the dog was sent to a nearby animal hospital for assessment.
