While outside holiday decorations and illumination can enhance the season, poor installation can pose a risk to public safety. Residents are reminded by the Swansea Fire Department to always adhere to manufacturer instructions and safety warnings and to check outlets, wiring, and lamp sockets for damage before using them. GFCI protection and never overloading are essential for outdoor outlets. When decorating, ladders should be kept at least ten feet away from electrical lines and only outdoor-rated extension cables should be used.

Fires, electrical risks, and injuries can be avoided by taking a few extra safety measures. The Swansea Fire Department wishes everyone a safe Christmas season and urges locals to decorate safely.
