Mansfield, Connecticut — December 2 — Mansfield Fire and Emergency Services personnel participated in a hazardous materials refresher course for incident commanders alongside direct mutual aid partners from the University of Connecticut Fire Department and the Willimantic Fire Department. The first size-up, creation of hot, warm, and cold zones, resource coordination, and efficient communication were among the command responsibilities during hazmat events that were the main topic of the workshop. Because hazardous materials accidents frequently call for unified command and multi-agency collaboration, joint training enhances regional response preparedness. Regular refresher training is crucial to maintaining operational consistency and safety, according to fire service requirements. Departments can synchronize protocols and expectations prior to incidents by training together. In order to manage hazardous materials responses in a safe and efficient manner, the refresher emphasized unified command and reinforced structured decision-making.
