Woodstock, Connecticut — December 18 — In the morning, Team 76 responded to a chimney fire in town with help from mutual aid partners Bungay Fire Brigade and Muddy Brook Fire Department. When emergency personnel arrived, they discovered that the fire was limited to the chimney and did not spread into the house. Before leaving the area, crews finished suppression, looked for heat extension, and made sure the system was secure. Because wood stoves and fireplaces are used more frequently during the heating season, there are more chimney fires. Residents are still urged by fire officials to arrange for expert chimney cleanings and inspections. Regular upkeep decreases the risk of fire and helps prevent creosote accumulation. Local home protection can still be achieved by prevention initiatives, early reporting, and coordinated mutual aid.
