December 4, 2025 — The Closter Volunteer Fire Department responded to a reported heating unit fire at an auto repair garage and gas station within the borough.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a small fire in the area where the heating unit’s exhaust flue pipe penetrated the roof. Crews from Closter, assisted by Demarest and Haworth fire departments on the initial response, were able to quickly contain the fire through swift and coordinated actions.
As a precaution, Closter activated its second alarm assignment, bringing additional support from the Old Tappan, Alpine, Northvale, Norwood, Harrington Park, and Emerson fire departments. Officials thanked all responding companies for their teamwork and rapid response, which prevented further damage to the structure.
