East Putnam, Connecticut — November 20 — East Putnam Fire Department officials at 263 Providence Turnpike reported that Engine 479 and Engine Tanker 179 helped the Putnam Fire Department with a reported carbon monoxide incident on Main Street. While performing air monitoring and inspecting the building for increased carbon monoxide levels, crews worked close to Front Street and Main Street. While equipment and workers worked in the highway, firefighters maintained scene safety and coordinated operations with supporting agencies. While emergency activities were in progress, drivers were advised to use caution. Because carbon monoxide is odorless and colorless and can quickly become hazardous indoors, events involving it are treated as high priority responses. Every winter, fire departments in Connecticut respond to these calls on a regular basis.
