November 14, 2025 — Members of the Woodcliff Lake Fire Department (WLFD) spent time this week sharpening critical firefighting skills during hands-on training at the Bergenfield Fire Training Center, focusing on primary search operations and hose line advancement under realistic, low-visibility conditions.
The training evolution simulated active fire conditions, allowing crews to practice coordinated searches, stairwell operations, and interior movement while managing charged hose lines. Firefighters worked through smoke-filled environments, reinforcing communication, accountability, and situational awareness—skills essential during real-world structure fires.
Exterior operations were also incorporated, with apparatus placement and line deployment coordinated to support interior crews. Live fire conditions provided valuable experience in reading smoke, controlling fire spread, and maintaining crew safety while operating in challenging environments.
Department leadership emphasized the importance of regular, realistic training to ensure firefighters remain prepared for emergencies in the community. The session at Bergenfield allowed WLFD members to train as they operate—under pressure, in darkness, and as a team—strengthening readiness for when lives and property are at risk.
