Bethel, Conn. — December 14 — While snow fell overnight, Tanker 1 from Bethel Fire & EMS operated as part of a regional tanker strike team to support Waterbury during a catastrophic water main failure. The response was made at the request of the Connecticut Department of Emergency Management to deliver non-potable water to Waterbury Hospital.

The strike team included Danbury Volunteer Fire Battalion Thirty-One, Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire Department, and Northfield Fire Department. During the hospital assignment, Tanker 1 was also diverted to supply water at a recycling and scrap yard fire before returning to hospital operations. Bethel’s tanker ultimately shuttled approximately 10,000 gallons of water.
