November 20, 2025 — The Junction Fire Company #15 shared an update explaining why residents may have recently seen a different fire apparatus labeled Engine 5 responding to calls over the past several weeks.

While the department’s Rescue was out of service undergoing repairs, their brothers and sisters from the Decatur Fire Company #5 graciously loaned an older engine to ensure Junction Fire Company could continue to respond without interruption. Once the Rescue returned to service, the Junction Fire Company’s Truck was taken out of service and placed 10-8 Emergency Vehicle Service for lighting upgrades.

The apparatus received a lighting enhancement that replaced the old cab-mounted light bar with one light bar on the front and two on the sides, improving visibility and safety for responders and motorists. During this time, the borrowed Engine 5 was used primarily as a manpower hauler, ensuring crews could still respond effectively while the truck was unavailable.

Department members expressed sincere gratitude to Decatur Fire Company for their support and willingness to assist for an extended period. Officials also reminded the community to check out the department’s Heating Package raffle, which includes cash prizes, as a way to continue supporting local fire service operations.
