On November 11, 2025, the Rheems Fire Department recognized Veterans Day by honoring all who have served in the United States Armed Forces and reflecting on the historical significance of the observance. Veterans Day traces its origins to the end of World War I, when fighting ceased at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918, following the signing of the armistice between the Allied nations and Germany. Although the Treaty of Versailles was formally signed on June 28, 1919, November 11 has remained a lasting symbol of peace and remembrance. Observed annually on November 11 regardless of the day of the week, Veterans Day serves as a national tribute to America’s veterans, honoring their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. Department officials expressed gratitude to all veterans and reaffirmed their commitment to remembering and honoring their service.
