Linden, N.J. — November 11 — On Veterans Day, the Linden Fire Department honored those who had served in the US military. Firefighters and EMS workers considered the commitment, accountability, and dedication displayed by veterans—values that are closely related to what emergency responders do.

On November 11, 1919, Veterans Day was first honored as Armistice Day to commemorate the conclusion of World War I. In 1926, Congress authorized an annual celebration, and in 1938, the date was declared a national holiday. In order to honor all American warriors, alive and dead, the celebration was subsequently renamed warriors Day. In contrast to Memorial Day, which honors those who lost their lives while serving, Veterans Day focusses especially on expressing gratitude to living veterans who performed admirably during both times of war and peace.
