At 5:38 p.m. on November 13, many agencies, including the Shaker Road-Loudonville Fire Department, responded to a reported structure fire at 422 Sand Creek Road. After callers reported smoke inside the multi-story building, dispatch dispatched units from the West Albany Fire Department, Colonie Fire Company, and Fuller Road Volunteer Fire Department.

When workers arrived, they found that incense had been burning in a combustible container on the sixth story, producing enough heat and stench to cause occupants to become concerned. In order to clear the corridor and apartments, firefighters started ventilation the affected area after confirming that there was no active fire.

Once ventilation was completed and conditions were deemed safe, residents were allowed to return to the building. No injuries were reported, and the incident remains a reminder of the fire risk posed by improper use of open-flame or heat-producing items inside residential structures.
