This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

At 5:10 a.m. on December 6, 1993, the Deposit Fire Department responded to an early alarm regarding a reported building fire on Front Street in the Village of Deposit. When first-arriving crews determined that a huge mixed-use building had a working fire, department staff responded fully. Firefighter Dale E. Linkroum was one among the responding firefighters. Firefighter Linkroum became the first line-of-duty death in the department's history when he died while working on the fireground. His death has remained a pivotal moment for generations of Deposit Fire Department personnel, and the tragedy was one of the worst days in the department's history.

Every year, his dedication and selflessness are recognized. We shall always remember.
