Nov. 22 — Bar Harbor Fire Department: Bar Harbor firefighters recently tested a new dry hydrant connection at the junction of Crooked Road and Norway Drive. In order to make sure the system is completely functional before winter weather arrives, the test was conducted after recent developments in the region.
Dry hydrants allow fire apparatus to pull water straight from ponds or reservoirs, helping firefighting efforts in portions of town without access to typical municipal hydrants. Bar Harbor has many rural locations where this type of infrastructure is a crucial aspect of sustaining a reliable water supply.
The department continues to monitor and maintain these systems to ensure constant water access during emergency responses throughout the city.
