Paramus, NJ - An early morning two alarm fire caused extensive damage to a 1 ½ story dwelling being used as an office for a construction company on December 3rd.

Shortly before 2:00 AM, police on patrol reported a working fire with wires down next to 1 E. Ridgewood Avenue. F.D. was dispatched and arrived to fire venting out of the rear 2nd floor and attic with electrical lines down in the rear. Heavy smoke pushed from the rest of the house. A second alarm was transmitted.

Companies made a push through the front door and were able to reach the second floor and attic. The heavy fire was able to be knocked down within ten minutes, but the heavy smoke persisted. Paramus Truck 1 and Maywood Truck 17 laddered the roof and vented. Companies found fire also in the basement which was quickly knocked down. Slowly conditions improved as members opened up. A hot spot was found in the rear on the first floor and also quickly extinguished. The fire was placed under control in less than two hours. There were no injuries reported. The building was not occupied at the time of the fire. The cause is initially believed to be electrical due to the downed line.

Mutual aid from Maywood, Oradell, and Saddle Brook assisted at the scene while additional units back filled Paramus firehouses.
