The Town of Canton Fire & EMS Department dedicated its new Memorial Garden on Nov. 17th, honoring nearly 200 years of fire, EMS, and fire police service to the community. The garden recognizes every era of response in Canton, from the town’s early fire brigades to the unified department operating today. A bronze firefighter helmet stands at the center of the display, symbolizing the commitment and sacrifice of those who have answered emergency calls through the years.

The department unveiled three memorial benches during the dedication event. One honors Lt. A. Arthur Vincent, who served for 21 years before passing away while doing his duties in 1987. Greg Sims and Willi Matava, two Life Members, are recognized on another bench for their respective 60 and 50 years of service. The department's first municipal fire chief, retired Chief Richard "Hutch" Hutchings, is honored with a third memorial. His leadership contributed to the agency's expansion. The department's Donation Account provided funding for the entire project, and administrators expressed gratitude to members and community partners for their assistance in completing the tribute.
