Gorham, NH — November 4 — Gorham NH Fire & EMS self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) cylinders underwent five years of hydrostatic testing by Industrial Protection Services. Cylinders are kept safe for usage under high pressure thanks to the DOT-mandated testing. To check for any expansion or structural changes, each cylinder was drained, examined visually, and then submerged and pressurized to 7,500 psi. The department's 20 SCBAs, 40 cylinders, and 1 RIT pack were acquired in 2021 under an Assistance to Firefighters Grant. Every cylinder is approved for an additional five years of operation after passing testing. As part of routine maintenance, crews also changed the batteries in SCBA packs. The agency expressed gratitude to New Hampshire Fire Academy & EMS for providing the air trailer needed to replenish the cylinders following testing.
