November 13, 2025 — Citrus County Fire Rescue is celebrating Deputy Fire Chief Keith Long, who was honored this past Saturday with the prestigious Geoffrey Greene Community Service Award during the Lincoln Reagan Trump Day Dinner.
Chief Long’s leadership during Hurricane Helene exemplified the highest standards of public service. Throughout the storm’s impact, he demonstrated courage, compassion, and unwavering dedication to the residents of Citrus County—rescuing families, safeguarding pets, and even converting a local business into a staging point and temporary shelter. His calm, steady presence helped save lives and provide comfort during a time of crisis.
During the award presentation, Property Appraiser Cregg Dalton captured the significance of Long’s actions, saying:
“You didn’t just save lives, you restored hope.”
CCFR proudly congratulates Deputy Chief Long on this well-deserved recognition and honors his continued commitment to serving the community with integrity and heart.
