Arkport, NY — October 30 —Tuesday night's training focused on Rescue 38 and the equipment it carries for various emergency circumstances. Members were educated on the onboard generator, light tower, and hydraulic pump that powered extrication equipment during vehicle rescues.

Firefighters went over the functioning of the cutter and combo tool. The cutter is intended to bite through metal and eliminate barriers in order to access a trapped patient. The combi tool can cut as well as spread, and its wedge-shaped tips allow it to fit into tiny spaces. Crews also talked about tool selection and safety precautions to keep control during operations.

The department stated that continual familiarization ensures preparedness for real-world responses. A video presentation of the tools in operation will be released shortly.
