GRETNA, FL - At 3:29PM on Sunday, November 28, Gadsden County 9-1-1 dispatched a residential structure fire in the 10000 block of Hardaway Highway in the City of Gretna. The initial dispatch included the City of Gretna Fire Department (first due) and Mount Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department. Additional mutual aid was requested from the City of Quincy Fire Department and Sycamore Volunteer Fire Department.

Upon arrival, personnel from Gretna, Quincy and Mount Pleasant pulled two lines and began the initial attack. QFD personnel were able to make entry through the front door on the "A" side of the home and attack the seat of the fire in the living area and the master suite located on "A/B" Corner. MPVFD personnel provided a supply line from Tanker 3 to QFD Engine 4 along with pulling a line and worked to ventilate the attic space on the "D" side of the home. SVFD provided a 3,000-gallon tanker and stood by to provide additional water if it was needed. A primary and secondary search was conducted with no other occupants found.

The occupant had left the home and left a candle burning in the master suite causing the fire. There were no injuries as a result of this fire and the American Red Cross was notified to assist the occupant.
