Grand Isle, VT — November 20 —Members of the Grand Isle Volunteer Fire Department gathered for a chimney fire refresher, which focused on safe operations and response procedures. Firefighters erected ground and roof ladders to demonstrate proper placement and movement on elevated surfaces. Crews also went over the tools and equipment carried by the fire vehicles for chimney fire situations.

A classroom lesson discussed the major causes of chimney fires, such as how creosote originates and the dangers its chemical buildup might pose inside a flue.
