Prescribed fire planned at Malabar Scrub Sanctuary on November 12

The Malabar Fire Department announced that a prescribed fire was scheduled to take place on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. within the Malabar Scrub Sanctuary West.
The burn, conducted by the Brevard County Environmentally Endangered Lands Program, occurred in the area adjacent to Briar Creek Boulevard near the Briar Creek trailhead. Temporary trail closures were necessary throughout the day to ensure public safety.
Prescribed fires are a routine land-management tool used to reduce hazardous vegetation, support ecological health, and lower the risk of uncontrolled wildfires.
The Malabar Fire Department advised residents and visitors to use caution in the area during the operation.
