November 6, 2025 — Brevard County Fire Rescue reported a happy ending on Thursday after members of the Fire Prevention Office helped safely recover a loose dog wandering along I-95.

Assistant Fire Marshal Brian and Fire Inspector Warren spotted the pup — later identified as “Penny” — running along the interstate. After multiple attempts to secure her, the pair were able to identify and contact the owner through Facebook. With the help of several good Samaritans who stopped to assist, crews successfully corralled Penny and ensured she was unharmed.

BCFR personnel then transported Penny and her owner safely back home. According to the owner, Penny had slipped out around 1:00 a.m. and spent more than 13 hours on the run.

Penny is now back home and resting after her long adventure. BCFR expressed relief and gratitude for the teamwork that brought her home safely.
