Reported Structure Fire Turns Out to Be Squatters Fire Pit.

Mastic NY- On November 18th just before 4:30pm the Mastic Fire Department was activated for a reported structure fire on Franklin Ave near Old Montauk Hwy. Lt Rudy Sunderman was first on scene. Sunderman reported that he was investigating smoke and some flames near the awning. Chiefs Rudy Sunderman and Gene Martucci arrived a short time later. The chief requested Engine 3 to bring their crew and a booster line to the rear of the building for a fire pit that was not contained and close to the building. The fire pit was quickly extinguished. The building which was abandoned was subject to squatting was secured as best as they could. The scene was turned over to Suffolk County Police.
