November 5, 2025 — Gainesville Fire Rescue announced that the application window for its upcoming hiring cycle is now open and will remain available through December 15, 2025. The department encouraged interested candidates to begin gathering required documentation and submit their applications within this timeframe.

According to GFR, applicants must complete several eligibility steps as part of the process. Candidates are required to hold a current Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) at the time of application and must possess EMT or Paramedic certification from the State of Florida or National Registry by February 1, 2026. In addition, applicants must have Firefighter I & II certifications from the State of Florida or an equivalent credential by the same date.

All applicants must also complete and pass the Public Safety Answers (PSA) test, which includes an online written assessment and video interview. Testing is available between November 3, 2025, and December 15, 2025, and can be completed at the candidate’s convenience during that period. There is a $50 test fee, and access is provided through the Public Safety Answers website at:

Gainesville Fire Rescue noted that applicants who meet the certification and testing requirements will be evaluated, and selected candidates will be invited to participate in the next phase of the process, which includes in-person interviews. The department emphasized that complete applications with all supporting documentation are required and that incomplete submissions will not be considered.

Prospective applicants with questions are encouraged to contact Lt. Dallas Baker at 352-284-8001 for additional information.
