November 14, 2025 — Alachua County Fire Rescue reported that Battalion Chief Chad Winningham and Lieutenant Kenneth Marr have successfully completed the Technical Search Specialist course, marking an important advancement for the department’s Technical Rescue Team (TRT).

According to ACFR, Technical Search Specialists play a critical role in complex disaster responses, particularly in environments such as collapsed structures. The training equips responders with the ability to locate victims, identify hazards, and assess structural integrity using specialized search equipment. Tools utilized in this discipline include search cameras, acoustic listening devices, and GPS-based systems, supported by skills in land navigation, mapping, and hazard documentation.

The department stated that the data collected by Technical Search Specialists is essential in guiding rescue teams to the most effective entry points, improving operational safety and efficiency during emergency operations.

Alachua County Fire Rescue congratulated Winningham and Marr for their achievement and their continued commitment to strengthening the department’s rescue capabilities.
