Vergennes, Vt. — Nov. 6 — On Thursday morning, the City of Vergennes Fire Department responded as mutual aid to a barn fire on Spear Street in Charlotte. Crews arrived to find the barn — roughly 100 by 60 feet — fully involved. No injuries to people or animals were reported. Vergennes firefighters and the tower crew operated for several hours to extinguish the fire and prevent nearby equipment and hay from reigniting.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with early indications suggesting an accidental origin possibly related to overheating farm equipment inside the structure. More than seven neighboring departments responded to assist. The City of Vergennes Fire Department extends its appreciation to all agencies and personnel who worked together to bring the incident under control.
