OCCUM, CT - At 1:21 P.M. on Thursday, November 24th, the Occum and Yantic Fire Departments were dispatched to Interstate 395 southbound by the Lawler Lane overpass for a car fire. Engine 42 arrived at 1:31 P.M. with a fully involved car which had also spread into the woods. Engine 42 stretched a one-and-three-quarter inch hose line and began extinguishing the car. Engine 33 arrived next and gave Engine 42 their tank water. Following that crews from Engines 31, 32 and 33 stretched lines into the woods to suppress the brush fire. Lisbon Tanker 154 and Taftville Engine 21 were added for more water. The Norwich Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
