Greenhouse Fire Quickly Contained

On November 20, 2025, the Martindale Volunteer Fire Department Station 3 reported that crews responded to an outbuilding fire in the 900 block of Newswanger Road in Ephrata Township. According to the department, firefighters arrived to find that an outdoor wood furnace malfunction caused intense heat and embers, igniting the plastic covering of a tomato greenhouse. The fire damaged a section of the structure, along with wooden stakes, nearby materials, and some plants. Twenty volunteers responded, including the Duty Officer, Engine, Pumper-Tanker, and Utility 03, and rapidly brought the incident under control, keeping damage to a minimum. While mutual aid units and EMS were dispatched, the situation was contained to Company 03. Martindale Fire Department credited the quick response and coordinated teamwork for preventing further loss.
