Philadelphia, PA — November 3 — In Northwest Philadelphia, the Fire Prevention and Code Division of the Philadelphia Fire Department visited 100 residences and installed 66 smoke alarms as part of an outreach program. The initiative was prompted by a recent tragic house fire in the same neighbourhood, which sped up efforts to check for missing or expired alarms and reaffirm fundamental home fire safety procedures.

Firefighters made sure every home had at least one functional device while speaking with occupants on alarm placement, battery checks, and escape strategies. Preventive programs are a crucial safety measure since, according to national fire data, operational smoke alarms reduce the risk of dying in a home fire by more than half. Through the 311 request system, the agency still offers smoke alarms and installation at no cost to city dwellers.
