Working House Fire on Mahanoy Avenue Draws Multi-Alarm Response in Girardville

Girardville, PA - On February 26, 2026, at 1305 hours, the Girardville Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire on Mahanoy Avenue in the borough. Before units could respond, a second call to Schuylkill County 911 confirmed that flames were visible from a window. In response to the updated information, Lt. 45-2 immediately struck a second alarm for a working fire.

Engine 45-12 and Engine 45-11 arrived simultaneously, with Chief 45-1 assuming command on the Alpha side of the structure. Engine 45-10 positioned on the Charlie side and promptly placed its wagon pipe into service. The crew also secured a water source directly behind the fire building and supplied water to Squirt 64-20.

Engine 45-12 established its own water supply and quickly deployed two crosslines. In addition, 45-12 provided water to Ladder 43-20 and Engine 45-11 throughout the duration of the incident.

Along with second alarm companies, an additional engine, a Rapid Intervention Team (RIT), and the Schuylkill County Incident Management Team (IMT) were dispatched to the scene to assist with operations.

Fortunately, all occupants escaped the home safely. However, several family pets tragically perished in the fire.

Officials expressed gratitude to the mutual aid companies and the Schuylkill County 911 dispatchers for their assistance.

Appreciation was also extended to nearby residents who provided bottled water to firefighters working at the scene. The fire remains under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.

The Rangers Hose Company responded with 12 personnel.
